Default Black and Orange Theme - No Text

A while ago there was a theme posted on here called Black and Orange. I attached the CAB file. Yes, the CAB is zipped. I had to for the forum.

I really like the theme, but I've run into a problem with it that I just can't figure out. In certain programs (i.e. PIE and GPSCOM.exe) I either see no text or it's white on white.

I use GPSCOM.exe (an executable to help setup GPS Bluetooth on Google Maps) as a test. Using the Carbon Fiber theme I can see text just fine. However, when I use Black and Orange I can't see some text in PIE (i.e. text on the "Post" button here on EQ) and the directions on GPSCOM.exe.

I've tried everything I can think of. I gutted plugins in Black and Orange like Fizzweather and others I couldn't use I (they were all "disabled" in some way, but I took out the code anyway) and still had the same problem. Then I just copied over Carbon Fiber's color scheme to Black and Orange and I still, mysteriously, had no text. I was almost sure it had to be in the scheme.

I eve went through and capitalized all the Hex colors and fixed up other details to no effect either ill or beneficial.

So, can anyone take a shot at this? I really want to make this theme work, but I'm out of ideas.

Color schemes can be in one of two places -- the layout (home.xml) file or the scheme (scheme.xml) file (with the latter overriding the former).

If you copied the Carbon Fiber scheme into the Black and Orange layout file, but B&O also includes a scheme file, it's not surprising that nothing changed.

Also, it's possible that the B&O scheme wasn't tested very well. If you just look at the Home screen, things may look great, but you need to check other programs, too, to make sure you haven't created conflicts. If there is a conflict, it might be possible to add new lines to the scheme to fix that.

One thing to try is keeping the B&O layout but changing the Color scheme setting in the Home Screen settings applet. See if a different scheme fixes the problems. If it does, compare that scheme file with the B&O scheme and see what the differences are.

That's a good idea, Steve. I didn't think about changing the Color Scheme options on the phone.

B&O doesn't have a scheme.xml, so last night I rewrote the home.xml file to personalize the layout a bit and made two changes to the Scheme. I added COLOR_WINDOWTEXT, which was not included, with a value of #000000 and removed a repeated COLOR_HIGHLIGHTTEXT hoping this would fix it, but no go.

The weird thing is the code for B&O is almost identical to other themes I have as far as the Default properties and plugin properties, but I have yet to find any other home theme that has this same problem for me. Unfortunately, it's my favorite theme so far.

I'll play with the Color Scheme and the XML a bit more. I'll also look for a scheme.xml, just in case.

Good call, Steve. I changed the color scheme to "Guava Bubbles" just for testing and sure enough the problem disappeared. There is no scheme.xml, but now I suppose this means I'm missing something in the Scheme in the home.xml file.

Looks like I need to do some more editing.

I finally figured a way to fix this problem. I uninstalled the theme's CAB file and dropped the home.xml and .JPEG. I finaly had text, but my soft keys were the default blue. i fixed that with the BlackSoftKeys.CAB and now everything is perfect.
