U740 Woes!

I recently purchased a Samsung U740 phone ( the one with the 'flippable' landscape/portrait screen) from Verizon for my college-bound son. A few days ago he called me to tell me that the one week old device had, on a couple of occasions, mysteriously powered itself off; during use. The dilemma reminded me of another high-end samsung phone (specifically the A900 'Blade') that I had with Sprint, that had the same problem.

I was wondering if anyone out there has or had this particular device, and if so, did you encounter the same problem with it powering off on its own? Perhaps this is a samsung-in-general related quirk?

I want to gather as much info as possible before I make the trip to VZW.
