Default To all the IT guys - Vista issue

I think ive posted this a LONG time ago but idk if it ever got resloved.
A couple of days ago i turned on my computer and pulled up IE. And it multiplied about 60 times.Forcing me to constantly click "close" I finally got angry and shut off my computer.... actually this was around the time I "exuded" my wrath on my last phone. I restarted it and downloaded Firefox which I use every now and again. When i restarted the computer the "internet" icon at the bottom right side of the page (the 2 computers) dissappeared. Today i was on and off the computer all day untill right around 730pm. For some reason I couldnt connect to the internet. My modem was working fine but my computer wasnt. I did a restart and the "internet" icon showed up but I couldnt get online. I pulled a diagnose and the computer said i was connected with "limited acess".

*sidenote* when i downloaded firefox I ran AVG and shell.dll as well as other .dll's were "moved". No other problems were discovered. My question is why do you think the problems occur and what potential problems are on my computer and how can I fix these problems.

I have NOT performed a reinstall of Vista.

Best solution: Switch to Linux

If that's not an option... repair install, or chkdsk. the drive. IE is integral to the Explorer Shell so it would be repaired by either action.

Its my personal computer so i guess Linux is an option tho to be honest, i have never seen Linux, only heard of it. Do I need to run a reboot before installing linux?

If you are seriously considering it I would try out the Ubuntu Live CD and see how it feels first.

There will be no active sync on Linux, a Q has to be mounted as a USB Mass Storage Device.

Ubuntu is probably the most popular and easiest to use distribution of Linux and has a fabulous support community. The Live CD is a CD that can be made and booted to to run a non-persistent OS from CD to test HW compatibility.

I started using it a while ago on one of my machines and have no complaints about it. 99% of it can be managed via GUI if that is your flavor.

Why in your opinion do you think my IE multiplied?

My first guess would be some application spawning the windows or something wrong with the core Windows Files.... which is why a chkdsk wouldbe in order.

Also roll back to a previous restore point in Vista, see if the problem is there as well.

already performed a restore point, yesterday.
When you are saying to run chkdsk...this is from Start>Run>chkdsk correct?

you can do that way yes. Or so I just did it on XP.
What it all means, I have no clue.
