<butting in..> i once went to a museum when there was a exhibition of kilts and the patterns used, every family has it's own pattern (called tartan) and they also use a specific family "pin" to close it.

Thanks rudeboy....i should really know these things, but mi familia has been here for many generations hence we are quite the Heinz 57. Lots of details are left out.

Easy on my Mom's side thanks to a distant cousin. Her work goes back to near Viking times it seems lol. Dad.s is more difficult.

Yes my Tartan is Blackwatch and it represents the Campbell's of Argylle. Every Tartan is different and is registered.

Even the slightest variation along the track (which is called a pip) carries significance.

The pins are simply called Kilt Pins, and there is no uniformity to it. most scots I know either close their kilt with a pin that has the clan crest, or a meaningful Celtic knot.

Well as luck would have it a young Scottsman drug rep was in our office today. I got to talkin about the kilts and what not. He said that the kilts used have more fabric for more wraping around the body and what not. And i didnt have to ask....this is where my co-worker blushed...he said yes its true, because everyone asks the popular question.

I laugh when she blushes she turns redddd. lol

If he was walking around combat style then he is taking it to an extreme. Even Scottish Clan leaders only go sans undies at traditional events like games or rites.
