Default Suggestions for good free MP3 ripper for Vista

I decided to clean out my basement and there are hundreds of CD's. My next project is to convert them all to MP3's. Rather than clutter my Mac with tons of music that I probably won't ever listen to, I've decided to use my PC to convert to an external hard drive. This way, it doesn't interfere with my day to day workflow. I'd rather use a secondary machine for the continuous ripping process.

Can I just use Windows iTunes or is there a better, faster and oh yeah free tool that works with Vista?

I don't like macs, but itunes is good and bad.
If you rip them, make sure you have mp3 format and not aac or another format. Also make sure you don't have it to automatically organize your music, because if for instance you have a cd that has a duet in it, it will put that in another folder.
Also itunes is slower than windows media player.

Windows Media Player, Nero, DBPoweramp, and even Real player will all do it for you.

True. iTunes has screwed up my music collection so many times its unreal. I have my iTunes library on my external hardard, soo that i can hook it up to any computer.
