potQ9c | Redbird, on the left shoulder, weighs in at just under 2 lbs. Neo, on the right shoulder, is a bit more than two lbs. So neither would make a good Thanksgiving Turkey.
To give you an idea of size:
He's actually, just holding my thumb, and I'm scratching the back of his head. Notice his eyes are half closed from enjoying the skritching.

cliche question: do they talk ? | Some do, some don't. My wife's Cockatoo (she's had him for nearly 14 years) only started talking about 3 years ago, and he only knows 3 phrases. Our other cockatoo taught him. The two guys in the picture, know a few. We have an Amazon that knows 200+ (or close to 400 as he comes up with new stuff all the time) words/phrases/songs/noises. Amazing to the point that our neighbor thought my wife and I fought often and loudly. The 'zon memorized a previous owners tantrum regarding a dog and the kids and will recite the entire 10 minute tirade at random times. Quote:

One in particular we named "monster". As he was one. He was unpredictable. One minute a lover, and the next, eating a finger. They can be turned around though. It just takes time (years) and lots of treats.

He has several phrases from the family who had him before us. "Let Me Out", "good boy", "good night", "here kitty kitty kitty" (they had him by the door so when they called the cat he picked it up, either that or he has a deathwish), ummm we kept him in the kitchen so when we use pam or other sprays he makes a spraying noise. He also makes kissing sounds and keyboard clicks as if he's typing. For some reason he wont pick up the phrase "I'm the spanw of Satan" makes me sad. Oh and one other thing all 3 of my nieces and nephew have now taken to calling him bad bird when they come over. |
