Default SD Reader Writer Help

So I order a Connectland Reader Writer that plugs into my USB port (I have four ports). The first one came I loaded the software and it asked me to plug in the device. I plug it in and press ok...wait a sec...and it pops up again saying plug in device. I tried all four ports and no luck. I contact Connectland and they say for me to return and ask for a new one. I contact New Egg and they send me a new one (did not even have to send back the old one) and I again have the same problem. Can someone please help. Thanks.

what operating system?
is it seeing the reader and not the card?
try it on another machine.

Some readers cannot read cards over 512mb.

I am using Vista. The package says that it is compatible.

The computer is not recognizing the reader. When setting up the software it asks me to plug in the reader but it is not recognizing it.

Trying it on another machine is a good idea but I want it to work with my primary computer.

if its vista compatible download the vista software. It is possible that the drivers don't include the vista drivers. Or right click on the files and under advanced choose "run as winxp".
BTW newegg rocks.

Wanted to say thanks for your help. I tried it again today on my work comp. which is running xp and no luck. I contacted New Egg (I agree rocks) and they created my acct. The cool thing is they let me keep both reader writers so I am still going to try to get them to work.

Ok ok I got to admit there was some operator error. One of my residents is way more computer savvy than I am (he is an IT guy) so I asked him to come down and take a look at it. For the first 10min or so we could not figure it out and then he took the sd card out and put it in another slot and TADA it worked. We were way over thinking it. I feel sorry now so I guess I have to buy some more stuff from New Egg to make it up for the two free readers I have now.

It happens with the card slots. The only slot that can't be confused is the one for compact flash.
you could always give a free card reader to a fellow everythingq member.
