here is something i am curious about.. spoke briefly with Prosper about this: does anybody know if Gimp (www.gimp.org) has similar capabilities, and i am mainly talking about the image in image, and the "ghost" image feature ?

thanks qwho.. the more experts the better.

The main draw of photoshop, and it's free competitors such as gimp and paint.net (www.getpaint.net) is that you can use layers. Old style photo editing was cumbersome due to the fact that if you messed something up, the whole image wasmessed up and you would basically have to start over.

Now that pretty much everyone does layers now, there are a ton of other useful tools.

You can't beat photoshop in my opinion, especially if you have the eye candy add-ons. Paint.net is free though.

I am unsure of what you mean by ghost...

thanks... i'll check out Paint.net, my well, problem is i don't really want to spent that kind of money for PS, simple and honest.

with "ghost" i meant a close to transparent image on the background, almost like a watermark, hope that makes sense.

you can definately do that with paint.net

It is a little harder to find the transparency settings for layers in p.n tho. Right click the layer in question, and i think it's properties, and it brings up a window with transparency options.

i have been "playing" with Paint.net and i like it... from what i can tell at this moment it more or less what i want so plus it's a lot easier to compromise when the software is free :}

thanks.

Gimp is a good program and it is FREE.. it gives you a semi photo shop GUI but it LACKS the power.

I run CS2 and do not plan on upgrading to CS3 as I see no need. For illustrating I use Illustrator 10. I draw with my WACOM tablet and I am happy with it.
