Question PC issues

Anybody that knows anything about computers, this is for you. All of a sudden one of my PCs won't turn on. (It's an e-Machine running Windows XP) It was fine last night when I went to bed...I turned it off by doing start>turn off computer. This morning when I push the power button - nothin. When I open it up there is still a little green light on one of the circuit boards in there, so I know it's not the outlet or power cord. I am clueless when it comes to this stuff. If anyone even knows of another way to turn it on besides the power button I would take that. It was a basically free computer so that's why I'm not taking it to someone to fix.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar issue a while back. I had a bad power switch. I solved it by buying a new case. Just food for thought.....

It sounds like it could be a bad power supply. The problem is, the power supplies on those emachines are most likely a Micro Atx which isnt something you can get somewhere like bestbuy. They are pretty cheap though, new egg has a bunch for a little more that $20.

With that said, it could also be a bad motherboard. I just finished working on a similar situation. I bought the new power supply, and it didnt work, I ended up having to swap the mother board.

Thanks everyone. That sounds similiar to what my IT buddy said. Sounds like I know what I need to do to fix. Why do (some) computers have to be such a pain in the @$$ !?
