M$ Word / Outlook

okay.... not Q related. but my bossman (and no, i have not yet searched the world wide web) has issues with opening Word documents in Outlook 2003 (on a XP pc), sometimes it work... sometimes it doesn't. he wants me to eliminate the "sometimes it doesn't".

anybody any idea where to look ?

Did he or you do the right click "Open with..." and "always do this" check mark?
& if they are using -the sender_- Word 2007 if it isn't saved in 2003 then there is a compatibility issue. Have you updated his MS Office lately?

Can't you buy some fake hearing aids & when he brings stuff for you to do pretend your battery is low and look at him funny and walk away?

okay... i do not know about what he did with the "Open with...", but if it opens one document by default wouldn't you think it opens all ? i think so...

i was also thinking about what if the sender has Word 2007, we don't.. we use 2003. do you have 2007 ? if so can you email me a 2007 document to test ?

wear a headset all day... he did not buy it was a hearing aid, he ain't all dumb :}

I would do the "Open With.." for sh*t & giggles anyway...

but just so you know 2007 files have different extensions that 2003 files

.docx = 2007
.doc = 2003

so you might be able to determine that before even getting my file

I would do the "Open With.." for sh*t & giggles anyway...

checked that, and it has both Word as well as Wordpad... but when i say to open just with Word it opens Word, and does not save the setting.. in file associations all it lists for .doc files is Word <duh>..

yea, just discussed this with a fella here who has 2007 and he said you would not be able to open a 2007 file unless specified in Word to save it as a 97-2003 format.

so i send him a test Word file.. nothing special (well actually it was special, but that's for another day :}

2 out of 3 times the file would not open and just give a notification saying "The system could not find the file specified"..

Can you do an window/OFFICE <-actually that's the one I want you to do. I think they have a fix for this so 2003 can access 2007. I think....

i am not too worried about the 2007 files, the test doc was a .doc from my 2003 Word..

OK--just re-read your past posts. Duh!!! But he's had problems with Outlook before hasn't he? What is it with him & Outlook?
& when you do the "Open With" there isn't a "Choose Program" at the bottom of the list? It should have MS Word & Wordpad (w/c is a watered down version of Word) then "Choose Program"? Just trying to force the system to go to Word when you open a *.doc. I want the program list to pop up...
