figured that you would appreciate this

i was at a construction fundraising dinner tonight and one of the honoree's was Jeff Vanderbeek (for those who dont know...he is the owner/managing partner of the Devils).

Long story short I look a cross from me and who is sitting there...Lou Lamarello!!! (also for those who dont know...he the GM and sometimes coach of the Devils)

It was damn cool...i was in quite the shock...
so I got to chat a bit and meet the man behind the Devils!

a. Making a sandwich for Bobby Nystrom (back in my deli days)
b. Renting movies to Kenny Baumgartner (back in my BlockBuster days).

Notice, I didn't include the autograph signing with Alexei Yashin.

My buddy got an email from lou once responding to concerns about the team. Not from his staff but him directly. He is a nice guy, but I bet a PITA for a boss.
One preseason game years ago I got John Davidson (former MSG color commentator and now president of the St. Louis Blues hockey team) autograph. Him and I talked hockey for a solid half hour before his telecast. What a passion and respect he has for the game. He also has a man crush on brodeur.

alot cooler to meet these people in a setting like this (atleast for me)
yea i see them at games and on tv...but to be able to go up to him and shake his hand and not have people rushing around him pulling him in all directions is pretty neat

much cooler than being ushered through a line to have stuff signed (claude lemuiex, bill gueiren (cant speel his last name) and mike peluso

I think it's cooler to meet the old guys. I think they appreciate the fans more so than today's athlete. I went to an Isles season ticket event where you could do the line up and meet each player. It was a terrible experience. Some of the players could care less about being there. I don't want to paint all players with the same brush, but there is a difference between the old guys and today's player. Bobby Nystrom was the nicest guy and just very down to earth. I of course have utter respect for the way he played the game and of course the goal.
