Are you moving the image onto another background, there are a few diferent ways I go about it depending on what kinda image im using (by the way im not a pro or anything i just like to play around with the photos i take, and i tend to use paint shop pro), magic wands dont always work great if there is not a lotta contrast between your subject and your background. it looks like paint.net layers though so as long as you paste as a new layer you can refine your edges with a background eraser. maybe ill download it and try it out, then maybe ill have better input

Select the item you want to copy using the lasso tool. It allows you to draw a your selection area so that you can easily create custom selections rather than just boxes and circles. Then paste it on to the new background via a new layer. After that just do like Jim said and tweak the edges of whatever you pasted to blend them properly into your new background.
