Question Ie 6 --> Ie 7

Hello

I am currently running IE 6 and I tried to install IE 7. When I tried to complete the installation process it stopped and said "update\iesetup.exe is not a valid win32 application". can anyone help? I have had no luck on the Microsoft website and the forum that is on there. I know you guys are smarter than the average IT person so I thought I would try my question out here. Thanks in advance.

First make sure your PC meets all the system requirements. You have to have all the current updates including Service Pack 2.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow...ie/sysreq.mspx

Make sure you don't have any virus's on you computer. Update your anti-virus and run a check.

Make sure you don't have any spyware on your computer. Download a couple of these free programs, update them & run a scan.
http://www.everythingq.com/forum/off...ful-20065.html

Go into safemode (reboot and hit F8) and do a system defrag.

Disable your anti-virus software & make sure there isn't anything running in the background that would stop the install: look down by your clock and turn off everything you can.

Most firewalls will play nice with an update but if it still *doesn't update then try with the firewall software off. BUT! Make sure your windows firewall is on & running.

*If you have Norton Anti-virus/firewall you will have to disable it so it won't start up when you start the computer. It will not, sometimes, let IE7 install. I have had to un-install Norton, run their clean-up utility software so I could get IE7 installed on some computers.

*If you have ZoneAlarm installed, disable it from starting up, you will need to reboot, and try the install.

I repeat, if you disable your firewall you will have to make sure you have your windows firewall on and running. Period. Running WindowsXP, Vista without at least the windows firewall leaves your PC vulnerable to the W32 Blaster virus.

Of course with any upgrade, back up, back up, backup your PC. Things can go wrong.

Good luck.

I think this is the problem I had. What if I downloaded the XP SP2 and I should have downloaded the XP Professional? I think this is what happened. What can I do to fix it if this is what actually happened? Thanks.

Sorry Scott for posting it multiple times, I know you guys are fast but I was going to bed, so I wanted try and get an answer before that. Thanks for your help.

Go to Windows Update and the update engine will tell you what updates you need. It won't lead you astray. It may want to update/download some software on your computer and maybe want reboot your PC & you will have to start the update over but that's pretty normal.
