| Help picking Best Digital Camera Okay, now that I have the grandbaby I want to upgrade my digital camera. I have a Hewlett-Packard that I absolutely hate!! Battery life sucks and just not happy with it in general.
I have done some research and found the ones recommended consistently is the Canon Powershot A710, A640 or A570. Since we have a few camera buffs thought I would ask for a more professional, hands on review.
Thanks in advance for your help.

| If you want a point and shoot camera, the canon powershot 1000 is hard to beat for the price (this coming from a guy who doesn't like canons )
Its a great camera.
You want to get at least and Ultra II 1g memory card.
This company is reputable, as I buy a majority of my camera stuff from them. www.bhphotovideo.com

| Cannon makes excellent cameras, a friend of mine has the rebel xti and the depth of color is outstanding. If you are looking for point and shoot, look for a camera with a decent optical zoom, and one that uses AA batteries. I use rechargeable AAs in mine but if I'm ever out somewhere and the patteries die, you can find AA batteries just about anywhere. |

| Thanks!! Thanks for the tips guys!! Really appreciate it!
I found a Canon Powershot A570 for a good price on the website suggested by Tony. And Joneyee I took your advice and looked for something that runs on AA batteries. Don't want to caught out at a ballgame or something with a dead battery and no way to recharge it.

| I'll side with Tony on the website. I've bought a number of things for the Missus' camera from there. They've got some of the best prices, and best shipping.
The Missus has a Canon Rebel DSLR and loves it. Its about 4 years old now, and she's shot thousands of pictures with it. We recently upgraded to an Extreme III card (I've got an Extreme IV 4 gig to give her for V-day) and she's even happier.
The only problem we have with it at the moment, is the speed of "fast shooting". With trying to take shots of the monsters in flight, we usually end up with "out of focus" or pictures of the tree stand with no bird because they launched as the pic was snapped.
So it looks like Christmas this year, will be a new Camera for her.

| I'll point that out to her. I don't think it's a camera isue, it's more of trying to snap a picture of a small object moving at a high rate of speed. In the time it takes to hit the button, and for the camera to click, the Wren has launched off the tree 10 feet away and is on my shoulder. Or the Cockatoo has already flapped it's wings 5 times.
The Big macaws are easy to snap shots of, as they fly like a helicopter. Slow, steady and directly to the next perch.
