He spent a month in his apartment not talking to anyone with only a script of The Dark Knight in order to perfect the role of the joker. As much as I hate to be quick to assume and say he committed suicide, it would make sense after preparing for a role like this. It's supposed to be the most incredible role ever played. Can't wait to see it.
