| College Life So Monday and Tuesday (my days off) I went to Statesboro, GA to see my Brother and one of my good friends (who are roommates). Keep in mind the last time I was in college we were using stonee tablets to write on. Since my phone was the unfortunate "whipping post" of my anger, I had to wait untill Verizon opened up so I could get a new one. I spent about an hour reinstalling the new homescreen and other apps. I took off on my Journey, along the way I found out that for some reason Google maps doesnt load while driving. *shrugs* I had a pack of cigarettes, and some Starbucks to keep me wired. I miss college life...the women, the beer specials, and the races....oh god! Ahh to be young again....

You sound like you are ancient. And since I am over 10 years older than you, you get no sympathy.
I went to an all-girl college (don't know what I was thinking there) but it was fun. The basketball games at JC Smith and UNC-C that I attended, the concerts at Charlotte Coliseum. I actually saw Michael Jordan play in a game he was playing with World B. Free, Adrian Dantley, Rory Sparrow (I know I am really dating myself now). Those carefree days when I didn't have a care in the world other than enjoying every single minute.
If I had it to do over I would have actually passed a class (I failed pottery) lmao! I could be a sportscaster instead of trying to stay awake at this damn computer at night!

I would have loved to go to a game, however I spent to much time finishing beers and margaritas YUMMY!!! My brother was trying to get me to "indulge" in the happy baccy but I dont do that anymore. My brother is the only one in the house who actually gets up for classes, hangover or not.

I went to class but passing obviously wasn't by first priority. I was enjoying the freedom of being away from home for the first time. And now looking back I can see what a disservice I did to myself by not taking it more seriously. But hindsight is 20/20.

Its so weird for them because they go immediatly from someone to take care of them, to complete and utter freedom. I can say from experience that you are not the only one who played around in college.

The silver lining to that was he ended up at a community college and living at home with his dad. He is transferring to a 4 year college next semester but having had 2 years of college already hopefully he won't be so apt to go buck wild when he gets there.

| My daughter is going to be a junior in HS this year (how the heck did that happen???). She takes everything so seriously, that I fear when she gets to college, she may be overwhelmed, or be unsure what to do with all the freedom!
Her HS is extremely competitive, and even though she is bright and a hard worker, the competiton is insane. Her classes this year are AP US History/AP Biology/Honors English/Honors Spanish/Math 12 (she's in 11th grade)/Band/SAT review class.
She is also the captain of the JV cheerleaders.
No fun electives, which is a shame, because at 16, she should be exploring what she wants to do, not so focused on getting into college, with a career already picked out. How does she know exactly what she wants to do?
Although I would sometimes like to be "young and carefree" again, I don't think I would trade places with her for anything! I'm more "free" now, because I can make my own choices. Bari had 6 essays to do over the summer, 2 books to read and annotate......She is definately not "free and carefree"
Oh well...just my thoughts (and rant for the day!) ;) |
