I bought the 360 when it first came out. I swore I would never get the PS3, but whipped out my credit card when I saw it become available at BestBuy. I think it was impluse + thought of it being "rare" + love for new technology. The fact that it doubles as a BlueRay player has really made me feel good about the purchase. It also helps that my wife enjoys movies.

After the amazement of BlueRay, I opted for the HD-DVD add on. At $199, it's easily justified when you consider it comes with a remote and KingKong. With Netflix, 90% of the moves we watch are either BlueRay or HD-DVD. The rare indy film is DVD.
I'm the king at justification of tech purchases.
