Congrats on the day Sherri.

| It only took me 1 year to ready myself for my Bar Mitzvah, but I didn't have to learn how to read Hebrew along with it since I was in religious school.

It wasn't necessarily the learning Hebrew that was the hard part....our cantor puts the Torah and Haftorah portions on a cd, so most kids just "memorize and mimic" anyway. Michael actually wanted to learn to read it, so he worked very hard.
The 2 year planning stage was more for the celebration afterward. No joke, this thing takes on a life of it's own down here. If you've ever watched "My Super Sweet 16" on tv, that is kind of what this entails!
Catering hall (only 130 guests, but still....)/menu for cocktail hour (which is a full buffet with 2 carving stations;seafood;pasta;salads;ice sculptuers;full open bar;olive bar;and full waiter "pass around" foods such as bacon wrapped scallops/sushi pieces/crab cakes/etc...)
Then full "sit down meal, including first course of either a caesar or house salad/ followed by penne a la vodka, and a main entree with a choice of filet mignon, duck a l'orange, pecan crusted mahi mahi, chicken marsala, or a pasta dish, including vegetabels and potatoes croquets. the children also had a choice of chicken fingers/hamburgers/hot dogs or pizza.
There is also a blessing over the food and wind, performed by Michaels 2 great uncles....After dinner and a candle lighting ceremony (including poems for all who came up to light a candle), there are cookies and pastries on each table. We also had a chocolate fountain with marshmallows, pretzles and fruit for dipping, an ice cream bar, cordial and espresso bar, a cotton candy machine, and a cannoli filled cake with coffee...
There was a dj, an emcee, and 2 dancers. We ordered center pieces in the shapes of different amusement park rides, along with balloon clouds and a balloon archway. We also had a photo booth, where the kids took photos of themselves as souvenaires. Family loves this, because unfortunately, as family gets older and moves all over, we aren't together as much for good things, so this lets us all get immediate pics of group photos...
There were socks personalized and wrapped for the young girls, who immediately take off their shoes (even though they all begged their moms for high heels). We ordered personalized sweatshirts for all the kids. the say "Michael's Great Adventure" (his theme) on the front, and on the back, "Hold On and Scream Tour 2008", with a listing of 20 roller coasters he's been on...(Looks like a bands tour schedule...). Husband had custom cigars made up (yes, Cuban...)
Color coordinated, personalized suede Yarmulkes (head coverings), over 700 photos, color coordinated outfits, shoes, ties, etc....
Plus we had friends from Florida staying at the house for the weekend...
I will try to get some pictures up here if I can...
Thanks again for all the good wishes and congratulations! I consider you guys my "extended" family!

| Actually, Tony offered to come and be the photographer. I would have taken him up on it, and gladly paid him, but my cousin is a photographer, so that was his gift to us....I don't have any personal information on any of you guys (except Cheri), but I will be having another one in 2 years!! Oy Veh!!
Hopefully, finances will be better in 2 years, and I can invite my extended family (you guys!)

Yup, Rachels is in October, 2010. hey are 22 months apart, so 2 school years. My girlfriend's kids are also 22 months, but one was born in January 96 and the other in November 97, so they are only 1 school year apart. She is making their Bar/Bat Mitzvah together. Rachel Bat Mitzvah will be the same time Bari is starting college, so that is financially daunting!
I think Rachels may be more low key, as she is my party animal. She may want hers in a "nightclub" setting, which means I can have more people, because it is usually buffet only. She is Miss Popularity in school, so the friend count may be insane!

| But things are settled down a little now? You can breathe again?
Take your shoes off without feeling guilty that someone is watching?
If so.... Congratulations Michael !!!!

| Holy, crap. That was a seriously involved party. For me though, never being in religious school, I had to learn the language and then how to read everything because my cantor wanted it that way. No cd recording here.

Thanks again for all the good wishes and congratulations! I consider you guys my "extended" family! | Mine was a lot smaller. We had close to a hundred people at most, so the whole thing was pretty modest and discrete, but that's how my family is. After the service we had a small luncheon in the synagogue that was available to everyone. That late afternoon/evening we pitched a part tent in the front lawn of my house (on the water so "free" scenery lol) and had a catered dinner with a live band. And that was about it.
