Default 4 out of 5 (or "So, you want to own a Parrot")

We recently brought in a new parrot. Here's the Cliff Notes.

He's a 13 year old Amazon, and was in a neglected household before ours. Old owners never had enough time to give him.

Early this morning he stepped up fine onto my hand as I was putting on his play stand while I put the new food bowls in his cage. We needed pictures, so I volunteered to have him sit on my hand while they were taken. Give a sense of Scale to the bird.

He proceeded to bite 4 out of 5 of my fingers. Yes, there is a matchign wound on the underside of each finger in the picture. When flipped upside down, he still wouldn't stop biting and I was finally able to shake him onto the floor.

He didn't manage to slkice into my pinky.

So, you still want a parrot?

did you explain that biting the hand that feeds you is not a good thing?

may just need some time to gain his tust. Had several dogs like that, took them a moth before they weren't afraid of us. Not sure if the same holds true for birds.

next time he bits, put some quail hunting on TV, point to hand ...TV...then shotgun

Did you try the earthquake (Shake you hand so he has to let go) it works for my parrot.

for those that don't know....

If DA has any more birds he may have to register as a bird sancuary.

his new friend may just need some time to bond.

This is true.
Damn DA that looks painful.
We had an African Grey that after I attempted the "glove" and that bird went off. It hopped around after me (it was clipped) screeking and makinga ruckas. It was scarey.

We had inherited it from a former landlord and it did bond with my man kid. One time we got in an argument (me and the kid) and the next morning I woke up and there were bird droppings all over my car. It was gross but funny at the same time. This bird we figured called its pal to come take out my car. Because it liked my kid but not me.

DA should get federal assistance for his sanctuary. Look what he has to put up with.

We have 17 Parrots, mostly rescues. We also volunteer @ The National Eagle Center. So needless to say we like birds.
