I inherited a friends cockatiel when she moved to California. That bird would whistle "La cockaroche" (sp) and would get behind me on the couch while I would read the newspaper and pretend to read too. I had a few zebra finches too.

Thinking about getting another bird though. I enjoyed the bird so much more than I did my cat "mouse".

In the zoo I call a house, we also have two Himalayan cats. The Missus wanted them, I didn't. So we compromised and got a cat. She decided that it was lonely, so we got a second one. They don't bother the birds as the birds are quite violent towards them.

I'm still of the opinion, that Birds are far better than cats. By a long shot.

After the African Grey experience, I really do not want any more birds. I like cats and dogs. I like animals that cuddle. I am sure birds do, but like I said after that experience with the African Grey I just am not in the bird owning spirit. I really think it must have had a bad glove experience. Never seen a bird go off like that over a glove. Hard to know when you adopt what they have been through.

As for the glove, I understand. Our old Cockatoo is incredibly fearful of gloves. I can ut a glove on right in front of him and his demeanor changes drastically. Take the glove off and hide it from him and he goes right back to being a sweetheart.

The Missus thinks it has to do with him being wild caught and a former owner being really rough. WHich left him mentally scarred regarding gloves.

We figure our former landlords were rough with this African Grey. He was fine with me until I put the glove on that day. I dont fault the bird, my son pretty much took over the care of the bird and they bonded well and it did not attack him but it did other people which I found amusing....since they thought they knew it all.
