I suggest, spend as much time with this Parrot as huminly possible. Its largly due to the fact that he/she has always been alone and neglected. I sugest as soon as you get home from work take she/he out of the cage and play with him or her untill suppertime and then play with he/she untill bedtime. rinse and repeat. Go out and buy some thick gloves so that this wont happen to you again.

I do appreciate the input, and we do have a bit of experience with birds (I was the VP of All Cape Parrot Rescue, under the owner/directors life imploded with Family issues and he along with 70+ birds packed up and vanished to Maine). The wife has been caring/keeping/owned by birds for most of her life, and I've been around them most of my life with the exception of college.

This isn't the first time I've been severly bitten by a bird and, considering we have three amazons from neglected homes, it won't be the last. Ra's is a 35 year old Amazon and regards everyone as a potential victim.

Yes, we've had numerous Quakers stop by for an extended stay at our home/rescue and we've always been able to find a good home for them. Check out the web for a local rescue/adoption home if there's noone in your house that can handle him.

There is a previous pic I posted of me and the big guys in the pics thread.

In this one you can just see the edge of our Scarlet Macaw over my right arm, while our Greenwing Demonstrates his wingspan.

And a clearer shot of our Scarlet on his cage.

When he first came to our home, he didn't like men. He grabbed my thumb one day and split it wide open, in barely an instant. Now, 5+ years later, he's much better with me.

well you are more then welcome sir from my input. I must say the Greenwing is an absolute BEAUTY! If I had the time for a bird I would so buy an Amazon Grey and teach it every word in the English dictionary.

It does take a special kind of patience when dealing with animals, especially thos that are finiky(sp?) with humans. I remeber having to deal with a K-9 at the vet where I worked. His name was Cisco, but I always called him Cujo lol. I made the mistake of.....permiating a recreational smell..... when I was in highschool and went to work. I swear that dog loved me me from then on.

But then again I dont know of anyone who doesnt love the Weapon

That is what happend with my son's African Grey. It was good at roping folks in too. The bird would be all cute, talking or taking food from someone what not and then BAM some one got bit lol. I just did not like it hoping around after me...it really had it out for that leather glove.

Alas, when my son went to the army. We had arranged for a home for the bird because I just could not be responsible for this bird that had it out for me. Their were some issues at the adopted home of "not bonding". So instead of giving him back to us, they gave him away to someone one in Nevada. My man kid still is very PO'd about that. We would have worked something out if we had known.

DA you and your wife have some beautiful birds.

Our other Amazon (Skippy) had convinced the neigbors that the missus and I fought constantly and loudy. Until one day when we were both outside and Skippy was going through his repertoire. In all honesty, we believe he knows more than 300 different phrases and noises. We even realized that a previous owner had kept him in their bedroom. :ashamed:

Skippy suckered me in very nicely. He had stopped lunging at the cage when ever I walked by and he didn't lunge when I changed his food bowls. One day His cage was open and he looked right at me, and with the sweetest voice said "I love you" and lifted his foot to be picked up. Miss DA was trying to figure out where all the blood in Skippys cage came from, until she found me in the bathroom with multiple wounds and bandages.

We laugh about it now.

Each and every bird is a handful, some love you, some don't. And some are just your pal.

Oh, and they can easily outlive any other pet. Except maybe a tortoise.

They are smart that is for sure! hahaha, the bedroom, what were they thinking!
Longevity is a good thing in the pet world. Pet tortoise might be a handful.

Our african grey was exposed to many teen agers. He learned a vast vocabulary especially telling people f-you at weird but appropriate times.

Wow with the whole bedroom thing. The people before us kept him by the front door, they would call the cat. After awhile they just opened the door and the bird called the cat. Here Kitty, kitty, kitty. He says good boy, Good night, let me out. For some reason he wont pick up "I'm satan" or "bad bird"

My sister's Eclectus tries to say "I'm such a good bird" but it comes out "I'm such a bird". He also barks (my sister has an intense fear of dogs, and part of her condioning therapy was listening to tapes of dogs barking) and "meows". Also, this bird cuddles and kisses. Yes, she keeps him in her bedroom...
