| Workaround to update Time Zone Change Well, I was told yesterday that my Q would not pickup a new time zone like a regular cell phone, but I was puzzled. When I got off a plane last week, I turned my phone on a voila the correct local time!
Played a little tonight and figured it out. Just turning the phone off does not help, but if you turn it off and pull and reinsert the battery, the internal clock gets reset to 1/1/2003 at 12:00. (I had put in a fresh battery after listening to 5 hours of music) This can be tested locally by turning off the radio (phone) in wireless manager, then powering down and pulling the battery. When you turn it back on, the time will have cleared. Turning the radio back on will pickup the local time. If you do it with the radio off, some of your old reminders may go off. If you do it in a new time zone with the radio on, it should immediately pick up the local time off the nearest tower.
edit: This changes the time, but I'm not sure if it changes the actual time Zone. I didn't use my calender while in Vegas, so I can't comment on how this interfaces with Outlook and scheduling situations. It will be awhile before I'm in a new time zone, but I'm now puzzled again how appointments will work by grabbing the local time from the tower.

| Gee, Doc...why don't you just go to the Micosoft website and get the new Fall 2007 download, or better yet, use the one that came with your phone--oops, mine's Sprint and I didn't think you would have something else! :foolish grin:
Anyway, good advice...but will that fix you described last? Enquiring minds want to know. :nyuk-nyuk-nyuk: |

Like your PC or your watch. There are a lot of threads on this (been searching and reading) and this has to do with pocket outlook and appointments by design. I've read it will not contact a tower and changes time to the local time like most plain Jane phones, but mine did so I experimented and found that by pulling the battery it goes back to its default and looks for the correct time.

So if it gets the current time and then you change the time zone, it might be messed up.
For people that use Outlook's Calendar the "wrong way", though, and don't change the time zone when they set up appointments, this might be good enough.

Steve | I think your right and this might work out well for me. I can remain in one Zone no matter where I am and schedule everything for "Fred's Time Zone". I'll try this next time I travel in the US, although I'll have to think about what to do on overseas travel, as sometime I'm changing Zones everyday with no "Towers" is sight.

If you don't set appointments in the correct time zones, you don't want to change the time zone because that will cause the appointments to appear to shift.

Steve | Thanks .... I think that's an easy solution for me when I travel. I really only worry about where I am at that time.
