Where Do I Got To Find HKEY

i keep being linked to post of how to do things such as turn off noises on my phone, all they say is navigate to HKEY/....//......

HOW DO I DO THIS and where do i begin. Do I press "Start" on my phone then what?. Can someone please give me guide to guide instructions to at least being able to do to this:

No Startup Sound___________________________________________
Go to:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\SystemStart \Sound
Change:
\Windows\Piano.wav to \Windows\*none*


Keep in mind that I have a sprint phone, i'm not sure if the above only applys to verizon

you need to install a registry editor like there is PHM Registry Editor, lots of thread about how-to, just do a quick search..

be aware: in case you mess something up it could be that a Master Reset is the only solution.
