Default VNC help

okay. im trying to setup vnc (remote desktop) but it seems i cant connect. im trying to sync the moto q,cell phone, with my desktop. if i hover the mouse over the icon in the tray, vnc software, it give me an ip address. but when i go to myip.com,or what ever it is, its different. it weird. i know some about static an dynamic ip but im just stumped. also when i sync my phone with the desktop an then over the mouse over the try it shows 2 ips. 1-from cell phone an 1- from pc. an when that happens i can connect to the Q an the pc together, works fine. i guess i need some with some smarts...

Sounds to me you are sitting behind a router/firewall. Would the IP VNC reports happen to be 192.168.x.xxx? If that's the case, you'll have to forward port 5900 (TCP) from your router to your computer's IP. If you have a DHCP server on your router (pretty sure you do), you might want to set your computer up to have a static IP outside the DHCP address block (but make sure it's within the subnet) that way your not stuck trying to remotely configure your router to forward the port to the correct IP address. If all of this makes your head-spin, tell us your router make/model, desktop OS, and anything else you might now about your config and we should be able to walk you through it step-by-step.

If all of this makes your head-spin, tell us your (a) router make/model, (b) desktop OS, and anything else you might now about your config and we should be able to walk you through it step-by-step.

Something else that might be useful is your current IP (to see if this is even possible). This isn't necessarily the IP address reported from http://whatismyipaddress.com/, but rather what your router tells you. If you aren't sure how to get this, tell us (a) and we can help you out with that one. Also, are you running any third-party firewall software (ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc)?
