Default VCast and VZW Music for the Q---Warning included.

I just got the mailer from Verizon about the availability of VCast and VZW Music on the Q....

I was excited and did the FREE download and installed the VZApps software...To my surprise---no not really--my Q became unusable. The software modifies the home screen and if you have anything other than the included screens it will not allow you to use the phone without a master reset..BE WARNED.

Another problem is that the soctware for the new home screen keeps crashing. I have done a master reset 4 times since I tried the upgrade for the first time around 2:30pm CST...

Some have been waiting for this ability, but they haven't gotten it right, just yet.

FYI I have the most recent version of the WM5 that motorola is supplying to Verizon customers.

I have a ticket open with Verizon and will post as soon as I get a response.

i did not (and am not planning) on installing VCast as it does nothing for me but... i did install/activate Wireless Sync (also Verizon) a while ago and that also messed with my home screen, i was however able to use my own home screens without issues, and after i uninstalled WS everything was back to normal, as a matter a fact i believe that i was able to uninstall the home screen cr@p even before i uninstalled WS..

This is not even allowing me to get into the "Start Menu" to make any changes. It screws up the system so well that I can only use hot keys to get anywhere.

Thanks for your post and input on the Wireless Sync problem too.

I did install the new app. I didn't like the homescreen at all so I just went into the homescreen setting and changed it back to normal. Once I realized the app sucked I just removed it all together and never had any worries beyond that. No master reset required luckily.

I want to add a little info on my Q experience. I have had no trouble with my Q outside of this experience.

I have loaded a number of apps with out error.
I have dropped phone many times with out bricking it.
---this includes going up a flight of stairs with it in my hand...it slipping out..flying 12 feet at great speed in to a metal I-beam and then falling 1 story onto a concrete floor---I just picked it up (all 3 parts -- phone, battery, and cover), put it together and powered it up.

I am very surprised with my lack of issues with all the postings I have seen on this with different issues.

It is possible that I am singularity with this issue, but it may be an issue since it makes such a major change to the home screen and other parts of the OS.

Please post your experience with the VCast install we can get a sample of good and bad.

The instant vzw forces vcast on me, I will switch carriers and transfer the other dozen or so accounts we have. We'd probably switch back to a gsm carrier to get world coverage. The 8830 BB is cool though.

if it takes over the Q i am with Lars and i will switch carriers... i am however curious to hear more opinions about the VCast "taking the Q hostage".. i read posts about members here being able to get rid of it w/o a Master Reset.

VZW doesn't "force" VCAST (nor anything else) on anyone now. Why would they start with the Q? Sounds to me like someone is looking for a reason to switch. Just switch if that works for you.
