One quick note : it has been my experience if my phone is plugged into the USB port turned OFF, the computer doesn't try to recognize it and it's OK and powers it correctly. If I have it turned on and plug it into a computer w/o ActiveSync, it will say "cannot find drivers" blah blah blah, and you say cancel (to not try to install any drivers) and then no power is given to the phone.

It could simply be that my wife's computer (which I experienced that on) could not provide enough juice to run & charge the phone.

FYI - A USB 1.1 port will charge the Q with no problem. At least, this is the case with the PC I am sitting at right at this very moment.

Need Help

If you read the user manual, it states that the usb->usb-mini sync cable is for syncing and maintaining current battery life only. So to answer your question, it will not charge your phone. Use the wall plug->usb-mini cable for charging. Hope that helps.

no its cool i know...
i guess there is only one more thing to try and thats just put active sync on the computer and see what it does...perhaps it allows the computer to see the device to charge it...

If your battery has been completely drained, it cannot be charged via the USB cable plugged into the computer (this connection will only maintain current battery life). Use a wall charger or car charger to recharge the battery. Some computer USB ports provide a higher current than others, and
will provide more rapid charging.
-P. 27 Sprint Moto Q User Manual

So it looks like you should be able to charge your Q as long as you have a relatively high battery level to start with, but if its low to none, it will only maintain battery life. It also could be do to the the type of USB port you are trying to use (1.1 vs 2.0).

Make sure you are using a powered usb port. Because of the power, sometimes USB ports dont have enough power.
