I had the same problem, you can go in and edit the profile you are using, and set the alarm volume louder and you can change the sound it uses for the alarm. If that still doesn't work, you may have to do a master reset on the phone to reset the sound chip. My messed up like that for a while and that was the only thing that fixed it.

If you are looking for a better alarm, CTAlarmClock is a great app. I used my Sony Ericson or years as my morning alarm and fell in love with the selective day feature. This is something that Q's alarm falls real short on. The CTAlarmClock app fixed that right up. I find mine to be nice and loud.

Just as Chaple wrote, the answer is in the Profile settings. Although, there is a System Volume level as well. If the alarm volume level is all the way up but the system level is low, you will have the same results. So, check the system volume level setting as well.

Mine was fixed by holding in the scroll wheel on the side til the menu popped up and I rolled the earpiece volume up... not sure how it got down but there are places you can be with the phone where any roll of the wheel turns it down.

Its plenty loud, use it all the time as an alarm clock while travelling.
