Default text message showing 1 all the time

I was in the middle of receiving over 200 text message from the servers at work and I turned off my Q. When I turned it back on, my SMS count shows (1) but all the text message have been deleted. When I go into messages, it shows (1) next to the Text message. My question is, is it possible to hack in and reset that back to (0)? I have seen instances where people had this on their email counter, but they just deleted the email account and recreated it to resolve the issue. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried sending a new SMS and then deleting that one?

I did that, in fact this has been about a week and a half. Verizon told me that I could do a master reset, but that is my last resort.
