Default Task Manager / Running Programs

I'm a new q owner and confused about how or why applications run in the background.

To eloborate.....when I purchased the phone the salesperson advised that if applicaitons were left running in the backgorund that the battery life would not be that great. If I open contacts, a text message etc and then exit out and go through the task manager, they are still running. Lately I haven't even opened a text message yet text message will be running. I'll look in task manager and shut down, then look again an hour later and it's running again? This happens constantly, why? I asked Verizon tech when returning the first phone (was only getting one day on extended battery so they replace the phone...now I'm on day four and still have 3 bars!) Anyway, verizon tech gave me a data support ph number but I haven't called yet.

Bottom line is...why are applications running that I'm not using? Why are applicatons starting up automatically etc? I don't beleive that they are in the start up....Is there a trick to shutting down applcaions that I don't know about? Just seems like there are a few quirks with the q that are odd....otherwise pleased with the functionality of phone.

Anyone else notice this behavior?

I am in the same boat. What I found is that text messages as well as Outlook will continue to run in the backgroud once you have used them. After reading several posts on this board, it appears that this is a bug in the system.

I have the extended battery as well and can sleep for 7 hours and its dead because the programs run in the background. I tried a master reset and now the Outlook has stopped but the text message is still running.

When I first got the phone it was wonderful and the battery lasted days, now with all the programs I put on and going online etc...It was down to a matter of hours before a charge was needed and this was at idle for most of the time. Maybe an hour, if that, of IE browsing.

Annoying but it seems its a known issue.

I agree with you in this, Windows for PocketPCs and Smartphones must have a better proccess/memory manager, something that closes the processes that are totally idle or a close and minimize button to select what to do with the app.

Talking about other thing... From 1 to 10, what do you think, are the probabilities of upgrading MotoQ to the next WM6?

I just got my Q yesterday and I noticed that the programs that I had accessed still ran in the task manager. I've just been going in and hitting kill all to shut them down. I don't have the extended battery yet but I'm only getting like 12 hours out of my Q before a charge is needed, is this normal?
