Default Sync w/Exchange constantly uses data

Hi all,
I have been searching the forums but can't find anything like my problem. I have my Q set up to sync via Activesync with my Exchange 2003 SP2 server at work. Everything syncs great, no problems there. I have my Activesync setting on the Q set for Manual, so it never automatically checks or receives things as they arrive. My problem is when I sync manually, Activesync syncs everything fine, but then keeps trying to sync over and over. It is almost like every 3-5 minutes the "PDA" light comes on and it is trying to sync or maybe ping back to the server, even though everything is set to manual. During these over-and-over pings or whatever they are, nothing syncs. If I shut down and restart the phone, the PDA light stays off, and nothing tries to auto sync. So if I sync and leave it alone, of course the battery dies within 8 hours and I miss calls because I am in data mode. If I reboot the phone and never manually sync, I never use data and the battery lasts for 2+ days. Not syncing makes it pretty much useless, but I am just wondering what is causing this thing to keep checking over and over even though I told it not to? If I could figure that out I think my battery would be great and life would be good. I really only need to sync 2-3 times a day tops. Thanks for any assistance!

do you have the latest update for your phone (mol3?). Are you on Sprint/Verizon/etc?

Hi,
I am will Alltel, and the MOL3 was recently released for them. I did do that upgrade a few weeks ago and still experience the problem. I also did a bunch of hacks in the past, but since doing a master reset after the MOL3, I have not applied any registry tweaks. I have read in the past that sometimes changing the location of temp internet files for example may generate 2 caches and data usage increases trying to keep both sync'd.
