Default Strange things happening with a Stereo Adapter...

Ok, so i went to Radiohsak and got a 3.5 mm stereo cable and a 2.5mm adapter so that I could plug my motorla q with 2GB miniSD card into my car stereo and listen to music through the AUX input.

Strange Thing #1:
Sound will only play out of the right side speakers in my car. If I slightly unplug the connection between the cable and adapter, it will play in all the cars speakers, but the slightest jostle will screw the whole thing up and make loud popping noises and create strange things #2 and #3.

Strange Thing #2:
When playing music through my car speakers, my Q will randomly decide it to turn on the voice recognition program and insist i say my command.

Strange Thing #3: This freezes up my Q and creates a slew of problems. Even after i kill all tasks, I can no longer place calls going through my call history and address book. I can move all around through the menus, but when I press the button to make a phone call, it wont do anything.

And just so everyone knows, I do not use internet at all on my Q so I don't have any viruses.

How can a stinking stereo adapter create so many problems? And does anyone have the seidio stereo adapter advertised in the store here? If so, does it create the same problems in your car stereo? Anyone have any solutions?

Perhaps the Q's stereo jack doesn't use a "standard" pinout (whatever that may be).

I have the Seidio adapter.. seems to work just fine. Granted, I haven't used it a heck of a lot, but I haven't observed any problems when I have used it.

If I had my multimeter handy I'd tell you what the pinout on the Seidio is.

Strange Thing #2: This is what happens if you have a headset connected and press the little button on the headset when no call is in progress. Sounds like the adapter is shorting the port when it is loosely in there mimicing pressing the button.......

Strange Thing #1: Have you tried plugging in a standard set of stereo headphones into the adapter? Do you hear stereo in the headphones. If not, then maybe the port on the Q is mono (possible but I would hope unlikely)?

FYI when I plug in a wired single-earpiece headset to the Q, and play an MP3, I only get one side.......which points to mono port. Because my earpiece plug has a stereo configuration (2 black rings)

EDIT: This may be your answer.....

On thing I notice right off the bat in link that q-rocks posted is that the headset adapter has four pins (or poles or whatever) compared to a RS adapter

thanks for your input so far. so which one of those would you recommend i try?

By the way, i ordered headphones that plug right in and have the 2.5mm port and it works fine. Its only when I use the adapter that it turns stereo into mono.

Look at the plug for your stereo headphones. If it has four pins and it works, then I would recommend trying the one on my link (or similar if you can find one cheaper).

Still no guarantees, because if your connecting cable between the adapter and your AUX input is 2-pin, and your AUX input is 2-pin, there may still be an incompatibility. Worth a try though.

Please update this thread if you figure the whole thing out. I am interested to know the outcome.

not to be a complete moron, but what are you calling "pins." When I think of pins i think of the prongs like those on a VGA or DVI cable.

What should I look for on the adapter and cable?

are you talking about the black bands? They both look like 3 to me. I'll look at the one I have in my car when I get off work.
