Default Why Not Store Things On A Memory Card

Is it just me, or should this be a feature of every SD capable phone?
I think Microsoft chose to do that on purpose. There are several reasons that they might have done this:
  • If you lose your card, your contacts and E-mail would be gone.
  • If somebody takes your phone and you have a password, they can't use your phone but can pop out the memory card and read that.
  • If you switched cards (or took the card out), syncing might cause the items to be deleted on your PC. If you put the card back in, syncing might then delete the contacts on the card.
Those are just guesses of course, but they all make some sense.

Default Syncing to PC

Scott answered your question -- get Outlook and ActiveSync. ActiveSync will synchronize your contacts and calendar from the phone to your PC.

When you update the Q's software, delete the old partnership, create a new one and the contacts and calendar will sync back to your phone.

Default Sprite Backup

Actually, that's probably not a good idea. While Sprite Backup can supposedly restore your device after a ROM update, if you follow their official procedure, you can lose your Internet connection.

I followed their procedure when I updated to MOL3, and the restore seemed to work OK, but I couldn't connect to the Internet after that. I eventually had to Master Reset and reinstall everything from scratch. (Of course, because I had an ActiveSync partnership and Outlook, I was able to sync those back to my Q and reinstall many of the programs.)

This was using a Verizon Q; I don't know if Sprint Qs will lose their Internet connection.

Default Calendar data on card?

What about calendar data? I have 4 years worth of calendar data taking up a ton of space on my Q. Is there any way to move that to my SD card? Alternatively, is there a way to keep all of that data in Outlook on my PC, but keep only future and recent past events (say, the past 3 months) on my Q? Thanks,

Adam
