Default Still having problems with Q vs WMDC. Please help!

I'm still struggling to sync my Q to my Vista OS. PLEASE HELP! I'm going crazy without having my contact list and I'll be darned if I'm going to re-enter all 250 of my contacts manually!

So, here's what's happened:

-I had a Q. I synched it with my WMDC 32-bit no problem.
-My Q broke (internal charging mechanism went). My provider gave me a new one. Same Windows Mobile OS Version.

The new one won't sync. Here's what I've done:

-Completely uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC.
-Unchecked the "enable advanced functionality" box on the Q itself.

Here's what I see:

-The "Sync" section on the Q simply reads: "To sync with a desktop computer, install ActiveSync on your computer and then connect this device." (even when connected) It will not let me click the Sync button to try and force it.
-On my computer, the WMDC program shows "connecting" for a little while, then it shows "error". There's nothing to click on to make it try again or to see what the error is.
-In the "device manager" window on my PC, it seems to recognize the phone as being an MP3 player, as it gives me the option to "sync using Windows Media Player" but I have no option to force it to sync in a different way.

If I delete the "Microsoft USB Sync" driver, then re-plug-in the phone, it just reinstalls the "Microsoft USB Sync" driver, and WMDC still shows "error" after trying to connect for awhile.

Are there any suggestions on fixing this? I swear, I'll go crazy if I can't get it to sync soon, and providers are the WORST for helping you (i.e. if it's actually a phone malfunction) since I'm trying to connect the phone to an unapproved OS.

I swear, I'll send a year's supply of Pocky to anyone who can make this work for me!

Thanks,
Sandra

P.S. My Vista Home Premium is completely up-to-date.

You didn't load ActiveSync on Vista did you? You don't need to, and from what I've read, it'll screw things up....

Ummm, no. You can't install ActiveSync on Vista no matter what you do. I've been strictly using Windows Mobile Device Center.

You might want to try and backup your contacts, Delete the sync partnership between your old phone and the computer, and see if that works. I unistalled WMDC onetime and the partnership remained. Im wondering if the PC is seeing the phone, but trying to sync to a different system and thats whats messing things up. Also make sure your phone is on, and all wireless is enabled. Just a thought.

Thanks, that's very interesting!

Unfortunately, the old phone is no longer partnered at all with this computer.

I think the main problem is that Sync Center is recognizing the phone as an MP3player, and I just CAN'T get it to recognize it as a phone. There's got to be SOME way to force the computer to recognize it as a phone!

The Sync Center (Control Panel --> Sync Center) is showing two devices. One is the phone itself (labelled Motorola Q well enough, but only allows me to "sync using Windows Media Player") and the memory card in the phone (labelled "storage card" and also only allows me to sync using Windows Media Player.

Thanks though, keep the suggestions coming.... I NEED this to work!
