Sound in 1 ear phone

I received one of those little mini adapters, the one for 8.95 on here that you plug into your phone and you plug your headphones into that. I have played with the settings and I still only get sound coming out of 1 ear. Do I need to order something else or is there a setting Im missing?

this has been discussed, the 2.5mm <-> 3.5mm is most likely mono.. i read it has to be 3 "rings" on the metal/copper part, the one i got from Radio Shack (made by Wireless Accessories) has the 3 "rings" and both ear-plugs have sound (stereo).
