Some questions regarding unlocking - Motorola Q Forum

First of all, thanks to everyone providing info, making skins, etc. I found a heap of great stuff on here the last 2 days I've been browsing. I've learned quite a bit and become much happier with my Q. My only problem with this phone at this point is the lack of picture mail which I absolutely hate sprint for. Other than that, from hacks and programs etc. I can do it all.

I have a Sprint Q. I have Facade, Orange, The black softkeys theme and RJtime. I'm currently going with Prosper's iVista Black which I love on the phone, runs great, much kudos. My question pertains to Unlocking. I already have the .cab file to do it. I have not put it on my device

1. Can a sprint Q be unlocked?
2. What benefits will this bring me. What will I be able to do that I can't now? Really is there a point.
3. Has anyone looked into this as a skin on a Q yet? http://www.jgui.net/black/vistaspinterface/index.html.

I really like that skin and would like to run it, but it says the full version requires an unlocked phone. I'm curious if anyone else has come across this or experimented. Thank you.

welcome aboard...

i am not sure if the Sprint Q's are locked but what i do know is that you do not want that skin, there are members here who tried it (quite a while back there was a discussion about it) and it does not work good on the Q...

I'm thinking the Sprint Q is "unlocked" I can reg edit, install apps, etc. I can't see what more an "unlocking" cab file could do...when I'm at home on the PC I have it on I'll post it for someone to look at. I had a feeling that's the answer I'd get about that skin. Looks like the site is out of Europe somewhere because if you go to buy it, the price is in euros. European phones and networks. are far more capable than US.

ditto to what i was thinking... if you are able to do the things you said, it's most likely not locked.

being an European.. it's not just the phones and networks, it's also the people :}
