Default Setting up Outlook

We have a new Q phone, purchased in Sept 07. I have set up outlook email on 2 other mobile phones (blackjacks with at&t). But this Q phone with Verizon must have a different version of Windows MObile.
IN the EMAIL set up, you have the options of POP3 and IMAP...??

In the BlackJacks there is also the OUTLOOK option which goes right into setting up with the exchange server. Set up was really easy.

But I CAN NOT figure out the Q ? DO I need to download different Windows Software ? I am not sure how to tell what version is on this phone.

Thanks....

OK. I have searched and all I can find is info on the active sync.

Could someone tell me if their windows mobile email set up includes the "outlook" option, or is the verizon/motorola q version only set up with POP3 and IMAP .

i.e.
Email
Outlook Email
Options
New Account
Only getting POP3 and IMAP options...

The online manual shows that OUTLOOK Exchanger "should" be an option. And on other phones it is ?

Thanks,

If you open up your messaging window (i.e. text messaging) from the main folder use left and/ or right to scroll between accounts. Once you get to outlook, that is the one you want to use to set up exchange. Just enter your information in the account settings (tools > options > account settings)

This is what happens, step by step:

Window/Messages
B. Outlook E-Mail
Menu
Options
E. New Account
Prompts for Your Name:
Email Addres:
Automatic Set Up (I uncheck this box) to option email settings from internet
NEXT
Prompts for User Name
Password
Domain
NEXT
Prompts for Server Type
THIS IS THE PROBLEM....ONLY OPTION ARE POP3 and IMAP

On other phones, OUTLOOK is an option to set up to work with EXCHANGE.

If you are using OUTLOOK EXCHANGE, what do you do at this point in the SET UP ???

THanks,

Ok, I think I found it. You don't want to set up a new account, you want to modify the settings for the existing outlook account so that it points to the exchange server rather than Outlook on a PC.
*the original instructions I gave were for WM6 but I believe that this menu is the same for both WM5 and WM6*
Instead of picking option E, pick option d (I think, should be account settings). and that will get you where you want.
Basically the outlook account can do either Outlook sync, or exchange. the "add new account is to add additional POP3 or IMAP4 accounts.

dont you plugin your exchange server settings in active sync on the PC and when you sync those settings appear on the Q and your set?

Default Be aware of exchange security settings

Hi all, first time posting here.

Using Active Sync configuration is the way I used to set up our exchange server on the Q, but watch out if your company is using exchange 2007. MS has really tightened up mobile security which sets a device lock (not key lock) after a maximum of 1 hour. We use exchange's enhanced password security (capital letter+numeral+special character) and that is what has to be entered to unlock the Q every hour, a serious pain! What's worse is that the key lock timer on the Q is then defaulted to greyed out so that it can't be changed from exchange's settings. The good news is that there is a registry hack to allow the timer to be changed up to 24 hours. It is probably already in the forum if searched for, but here it is.

HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001023
Change the value to 1 and that will allow the timer to be changed. By the way after the second Policies, you need to change from "Values" to "Keys" to see the "00001023".

I also had to add the correct certificate from the server. Hope this helps.

Dave
