As for just using their 10-digit phone number + @message.alltel.com , It doesn't even work when sending from one Alltel customer to another! Even the top of tech support ladder at Alltel will strait up tell you, "you cannot send or receive MMS's on your phone. Its not supported"
If you try to do the number@message.alltel.com , it only sends the filename of the picture you were trying to send, with no actual file attached.
Why on Motorola's website do they list the phone as being MMS capable? THATS what I don't understand, Along with how our providers can be so stupid to leave it out of their provider specific software implementations ! |
Motorola Q DOES support MMS. Unfortunately, providers like Sprint, Alltel, and Telus don't support MMS - I know, it sucks. Supposedly, they're making attempts to resolve the issue - something with the network itself isn't making it work. Keep in mind, the Moto Q has only been around with Sprint and its predecessors or a short while, so they're working out the bugs to make MMS possible. My biggest surprise, is that this phone doesn't support Sprint's Power Vision Package (Sprint Navigation and Sprint TV). However, this is a business-oriented phone, not a phone for entertainment.
Personally, I'm more concerned with Sprint making the Q Windows Mobile 6 upgradable, like Verizon.
At the same time, they're trying to push the their line of new Treos and Blackberries, to compete with T-Mobile Dash, Cingular's new phones, and other hi-end smartphones/PocketPCs. The cellular market now, is focused on making the ideal GSM smartphone/PocketPC.
Aside from this, if you have Verizon, you will have full MMS capability with the Q.
If I were to do it all over again, I'd have the Q with Verizon. However, I got a tremendous deal for the Sprint Q, because I was a previous Nextel subscriber. Sprint literally voided my previous existing contract fees with Nextel, voided my activation fees, and gave me every rebate imaginable to make sure I got the Sprint Q for free. IMO, this phone serves its purpose for me. I can live without MMS, for now. Since I'm a computer/PDA guru, and I can handle the burden of sending media files through cellular email, rather than MMS. Overtime, you'll be able to deal with it as well. Give it time.
