Screen Shuts off

I've been searching, but I haven't been able to find out why my screen will shut off when i am talking. once i finish the phone call, the screen doesn't turn back on. i push all the buttons and hold down the power down button, but nothing. the only way it shuts off is if i take out the battery. i've been told that i have to treat it like a computer and power it down everyday for 15 minutes without the battery and also update the software. does anyone else have this problem?

now with the software updates at motorola.com, i have read threads, and a lot of people saying that once they did do the software update, they have problems. should i do a software update?

can anyone help me or refer me to the threads that will? Thanks.
