Question restarting the Q

I have a question, I have my gmail setup and working. But I've noticed that every now and then through out the day, if I try to send and receive to check my mail, or try to get on the internet it won't work and i get the check server error. The only fix for this that I have found is restarting the phone. I've tried holding the home key and going into wireless manager and turning both bluetooth and phone off and then back on but that doesn't work, and even that sometimes freezes up on me. After I restart my phone I get bombarded with some text's my wife sent me and an occasional voicemail or two and the internet and checking my email works again. Does this occur with everyone else?

I've had that happen a few times, but I find that most of those times seem to be a problem with the e-mail server and not the phone. I use cox and when I have that problem I go check the webmail.cox.net site but it's not working, either. Usually it just refixes itself for me.

The check server error, though, makes me wonder if your smtp settings are set up for the gmail system? I don't know who your provider is but I had to change my outgoing smtp settings on my phone to the verizon smtp outgoing server settings to keep the e-mail in and out flowing.

if you're verizon, the outgoing smtp is smtp.vzwmail.net, and you'll need to have a different outgoing name & password.

thatnks for the reply. I think i found the fix; I edited a registry line for the lowpowermode (which stopped my phone from freezing) and so far i haven't had any problems not being able to connect to the internet or my email. The fix actually makes the Q seem like a normal phone without any issues. I am not sure if editing that registry item fixed it or not but i know all my problems are fixed.

The lowpowermode hack was probably it. That fixes most of the connectivity and lockup quirks.

I am not taking any credit for this; VoicesinMyHead over at Qusers.com discovered it on sprintusers.com from huntm856. It's helped my phone, since then I've have had no issues with it.

1. You need a program that will allow you to get into the registry. There are several around, but I use Total Commander (download at http://www.ghisler.com/smartphone.htm). It's free and it works well.

2. Once you have that installed, start it.

3. When it opens, you'll see a list of folders. The one at the top will have two backslashes (\\) that is the root folder. Click on it.

4. You'll see two folders, ftp and registry. Click on registry

5. You'll see three folders, HKCR, HKCU, and HKLM. Open HKLM.

6. A long list of folders opens. Scroll down to drivers and open.

7. Ditto. Scroll down to builtin and open.

8. Ditto. Scroll down to ipm and open.

9. A long list of values ('keys') opens. Click on LowPowerMode.

10. I think the original value of this key (in box at top of value page) is 2. Change it to 0. Leave base as Decimal (though, since the value is 2 it won't matter: 2 dec = 2 hex.)

11. Click OK.

12. Back, back, back, etc., until you get to the root folder again.

13. Click right softkey (File menu), select MORE (all the way at bottom of list) then Exit (all the way at bottom of list).

14. Hard reset your Q (power down and restart). Like your PC, registry changes don't take effect until the OS reloads from bootup.
