Default Resetting to Restore Points

So my Q keeps turning itself off which gets on my nerves. It did it 10 times one night. Its usually not that frequent though. But I dealt and all that. Well recently, sometimes when it shuts off, its going back to a certain point in time. So if it goes back to a restore point that was last night, Ill lose everything I did today. Why is it doing this? Should I get a new phone??

Default Restore Points

As far as I know, there's no "restore point" capability in Windows Mobile. You need to use something like Sprite Backup to restore back to another point.

However, there are two things that could look like that.

First, if you're changing files and the Q resets without saving the file, it could look like that file was reverting to its old version (which it basically is). But that would only occur with open files. Files you've saved should still be the same (possibly subject to the next point).

Second, if you're changing something like the registry (or probably anything in RAM), it takes a little bit for the changes to get saved to Flash memory. If the Q resets before that save happens, it could seem like your device was reverting to a previous time (but the time is probably very short).

Well i figured it didnt have that feature but thats exactly what its like. Its not short time and im not messing in the registry. I notice it in text. Ill have 30 texts incoming today and then it shuts off and when it comes back on, those 30 texts are gone... Also, if i delete 20 old texts, when it does that, the old texts are back. Its driving me crazy..

Is it only text messages that you notice that with? If so, maybe the carrier has a problem with their text message system.

The bigger problem is the Q resetting so much. You didn't say what carrier you're on or what level of software you have, but if you're on Verizon, make sure you have MOL 3, which solved the few reset problems I had.

I can tell you that's not how my Verizon Q works. Texts are still there after soft resets.

Once I got a sim card and deleted most of my pics of my phones memory, it hasnt done it at all. Maybe once. Still resets but not deleted texts or anything. I guess I can deal with the reset every now and then. So if anybody else has this problem, its probably your phones memory..

Keeping device memory free is a good suggestion, but I'm still not sure why full memory would cause you to lose text messages after a reset.

Steve

P.S. I think you meant that you got a MiniSD memory card, not a SIM card. SIM cards are used in GSM phones, and I don't believe they provide storage for anything other than an address book (maybe that's changed, though).

Regardless, unless you have one of the new GSM Qs (in which case you probably already would have had a SIM card), your Q won't work with a SIM card.
