Default Recieving Extended TXT msgs

Other phones i have had allow receiving extended text msgs (over 160 characters). But after purchasing the Q i cannot receive any that are over 160, and quite frankly it is kind of annoying.

Does anyone know a way so that i can receive extended text messages? Because the phone can send them but cannot receive them.

I searched the forums but couldn't find anything on this topic so maybe someone can help me out! And i don't mind modifying the phone to make this work. Girlfriends and sending super long text's when they can just call

Thanks again,
Jon

i wonder how do you know the Q can send more then 160 characters in a txt message.

and maybe the person who came up with the limitation of 160 has/had a wife/gf that "talks" way too much :}

I'm on VZW, so when i create a new text, the character count will increase x/160, etc. When I go OVER 160 characters in the same message, the count changes to x/320 (2 messages), etc.

the receiver usually receives 2 text messages. I haven't tried over 320 characters (3 or more messages).

and if someone sends me a text over 160 characters, i usually receive them as 2 messages.

anything longer than 320 characters should be email. to me that's not a message, that's a letter.

yeah, but people are doing it regardless and wondering why they're not receiving long text messages. I rarely need to send over 160 character text messages. I usually keep texts under 160 characters. Anything over, I'll just call the person and leave a voice mail if I'm not in front of a computer to send e-mail.

agreed!

I can send as much as i want and they just receive more than 1 txt message, but when receiving anything over 160 characters it cuts it off and then i receive another txt saying "this message has been modified to fit this handset" blah blah

so, im guessing its receiving the whole data but just breaking it off

again, i would rather call if its going to be a lengthy one but my GF does not have email capability on her phone and when shes somewhere she cant talk she resorts to txt messaging.

Im guessing there is no way around it, but alot of other phones can so i was wondering what is different that the Q cant.

PS: Motorola's RAZR can send and receive extended txt messages fine! so maybe its just windows mobile?

you're right about enhanced messages, but EXTENDED messages (over 160 character broken up into multiple messages)? I receive those just fine on my VZW Q (from at least T-Mobile and Cingular users).
