Default Question about Voice Recognition. HELP!!!

I was wondering if there is a hack or a way that I am missing that will allow me to use voice recognition to dial a number etc...WITHOUT having to use the speaker phone aspect of the Q. I would like to be able to activaye voice recognition while using the Q on my ear and be able to hear the commands in my ear only without the rest of the room having to hear who I am calling etc... Could some kind soul please help me out.

Many are looking for this, but I have as yet not seen a resolution for it, other than to turn down the volume before using voice recognition and then turn it back up once you are in the call. You should be able to use your headset, if it supports this feature.

I'm amazed this phone cannot utilize the voice recognition without using the speaker. I wonder if that kind of fix could be a software upgrade or does it require buying the next generation Q? I have not tried it with the headset yet. What about putting it on "meeting" first and then trying it, or putting the profile on "silent".

Default Try a Bluetooth Headset

I use the voice recognition software all the time with my bluetooth headset and it works great. I can hear it in my ear and I speak through the headset.

Yes, I've noticed if you happen to have a headset, the voice recognition is more private, but when you don't have a headset, it's kinda weird that it can only work on speakerphone. I wonder if that can be fixed by a software upgrade.

Personally I would love to see a hack/util to return to the "trainable" voice recognition. It just isn't the case that I need voice recognition for all of my contacts, and even if I did, training and matching the recording works a lot better than having the thing guess at contacts. And it's a lot easier to go straight to a contacts mobile/work/home number if you just have a recording "JimBob Home" "JimBob Cell" etc.

Actually it does work that way with your outlook contacts. YOu can say "Jim Bob mobile" and it understands that. My only problem is that if you don't have a headset hooked up, it only works on speaker, which is annoying and not very private.

Assuming it gets the "Jim Bob" part correct.

I just downloaded the demo for VitoVoice, $16. Seems to add trainable recordings similar to what I had on my T-series Motorola, which I had very good luck with.

I guess part of the speakerphone rationale is that if you are talking to your cell with people around anyway, it's already not super private at that point? but it does seem a strange non-configurable implementation.

Default Voice Reco vs Speakerphone

Hi all... my first post...

Strange that after a year or two that Motorola has not corrected what I consider an oversite... the required use of the speakerphone when you want to use voice reco...

Since almost a year has lapsed since the post that I am replying to and since I just purchased my Q 2 days ago... has there been any progress in resolving this issue?

I almost never use a speaker phone (and that eats tons of battery, why would they default that anyway?) and I always (or at least used to) use voice reco, I am nearing returning the phone and purchasing something a little more well thought out.

Another unrelated thing that I noticed is that charging by USB connection... how do you know it is charging or not? is there a charging light? Does the batery icon scroll? I did not, and prefer not to install software, but do I need to install the included CD to get that to work (charge via USB)?

And is there a way to back up my contacts on the phones SD card? I have not seen that either... unless that too is on the install disk.

I must say, the phone looks good, and does have a good feel... nice screen for reading my Outlook calendar... decent size keyboard with a real (as real as you can get on a phone) QWERTY layout...

As I would think this a business oriented phone, I am surprised that there aren't more business like features set up... an ignore call is nice... but how about a mute so you can just shut off the ringer and look to see who is calling before it goes to voice mail... how about a few normal ring tones that sound like a telephone or a beep and not a carnival or rock concert... lets not forget the dreaded speaker phone requirement... I don't like scrolling to get to the location to get into the vibrate mode (embarrasing to fumble around in a meeting looking for it)... How about a kill app button for each app so you don't have to navigate and highlite things time and time again...

That being said, I like the phone and have some decissions to make...

If there is anyone out there that can help with work arounds, I'd appreciate it... I am not able to do hacks... but I am very computer litterate (although my spelling probably shows a lack of litteracy!)

Thanx!
Jeff
