Default Question about using an SD card

Hi everyone, this is my first post on these forums. Hopefully I've come to the right place =)

I picked up a 2 gig mini-SD card because the MP3's I was using as ringtones were taking up huge amounts of space (I haven't looked hard for an easy way to cut them down, so I am using full size MP3's). I poked around and asked the people at best buy (a mistake, I know) if when I put an SD card in if the phone would recognize it the same as internal memory and use it the same way. They said yes.

Well, they were wrong.

Is there a way to do this? The only way I've been able to put things on the card so far is by going into the file manager and basically cut/pasting them on to the card. If I do this with the ringtones, will it be able to load them as quickly as the internal memory, or will I have a lag effect when I get a phone call?

Will it even work?

I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice you could give me. Thanks!

you can move them around in the phone yourself or you can hook it up to your computer and use active sync to browse the phone and move multiple files at once and it will cut down your time by alot....im not sure if you have have ringtones not on the phone itself...perhaps get a program to cut the mp3s down and move only those to the phone as ringtones and leave the others on the card....make sense?

Yeah it does.

Is there an easy program that will let me chop off the end of the ringtone without converting the file to a different format first?

This is probably somewhere in the FAQ so I'll go look for it.

Where would you put them on the memory card to make them selectable in the sounds menu?

Place them at the root of the card. I have about 7-8 different ring tones there and dont notice any lag, and my Q recognizes them no problem. But make sure thay are at the root of the card! Also nice, so when they give updates, you dont have to hunt for the tones again or reload them.

How do you make sure they are at the "root" of the card?? sorry, if thats a stupid question. but thanks for the help.

And you can download Wavepad from download.com and that program is GREAT for cutting mp3s to the size you want.

When you place them they should be under 'Storage Card' or \Storage Card in the file manager. Not a bad question....Or to be truly lazzy, just put the card in a card reader and copy them to the card that way...
