Default Question about memory cards

Lately I have been getting messages of low storage space, so I bought a 1GB mini SD card. My question is, how does it work as far as storage allocation? Will my emails, programs, pictures etc just automatically start using up that space, or do I have to somehow do something to allocate storage on to the card? I looked at my memory manager and it shows a few MB's left of internal memory, and none has been used yet of the card I put in, so when will it start being used?

Thanks for the insight.

When you download new programs, (if done directly on Q), phone will ask where to save: device or card. For programs already on phone, you can use the file manager to move from phone to card. New pictures can be stored on card, & old ones can be moved to card. I just moved old ones on my card to my PC, and put them on a disc "just in case". Hope some of this makes sense, and helps you. If not, a guru will be along shortly!

programs that came on device...stay on device. 3rd party apps you've downloaded need to be uninstalled and then installed on card. email...there is a hack in the hack section to move mail to card! and yup..within your pictures and videos app you can set to save to card!

...also check out SKTools lite to free mem!

@ treefrog: why do 3rd party applications have to be removed and reinstalled? Can't they be moved? I think I did it this way...

you can with that mobile app mover software...I found that to be trauma! And simple apps (just an exe) you can!

<---not treefrog

When apps are installed they create initiation files and registry entries. When apps are moved, these "pointers" can be lost or broken. Better to remove and reinstall so they work properly.

I'd "officially" thank you, but I'm on Q. Thank you, though!
