Default Q vs Blackjack?

Hi everyone, new user here. I know there will be some bias here, but I am going to ask anyway.

Currently I have the XV6700 on Verizon. My contract is going to be up shortly. While I like the functionality of the XV6700, it is a bit of a brick to carry around and I am looking for something smaller.

I like the form-factor of the Moto Q and Samsung Blackjack. I am free to stay with Verizon, or jump ship to Sprint or ATT. All have good 3G coverage in my area.

In addition, I only need US coverage, so the Blackjack's world coverage is not of any value to me. However, I do like the fact that I can use the SIM from the BJ in any other GSM phone so if I just want to take the tiny Nokia 8290 I have for just basic phone use when going out, I have that option.

I currently use my XV6700 for corporate e-mail (Good push), wireless backup modem for my laptop, checking gmail, viewing MS Office (no need to edit) and web browsing. I also like other aps like maps (Google or MS), listening to music files and playing the occasional saved video.

I am not a heavy phone user, less than 100 minutes/mo.

I like the slightly smaller size and weight of the BJ, but I also like the mini SD on the Q (vs micro SD on the BJ), the fact that it has a slightly larger screen and standard mini-USB hookup.

The BJ offers access to ATT media toys like watching ESPN, CNN, etc.

Does one phone have any "fatal flaws"?

Also, if I go with the Q, is there any big difference between the Verizon and Sprint versions or their EVDO performance? The data plan through Sprint is much less expensive than Verizon. While my company pays for the monthly bill, I would certainly like to go with the less expensive option if there were no downsides.

So, given all of this, would the Q or BJ be the better pick?

Thanks!

Honestly, we have both here and they are the same phone. The differences lie in the carrier, carrier specific software, and very slightly different form factor. I don't think you will notice much difference so I would make the decision based on the carrier not the phone.

Do you find that one has better ergonomics over the other? Or is there anything that one does particularly better, or worse, than the other?

Thanks.

I don't think one daoes a better job than the other. I have a personal preference for Verizon's network so for me ATT is not an option (areas where I have no coverage). They do have different keypads. You may want to get your hands on each at the store to see which you like better. That being said, the new Q9m has a keypad closer in style to the BJ.

if you are into sending picture mail, stick with verizon. Thats not a feature offered by sprint (unless they've updated), you have to send pic mail via email.

Thanks.

I former co-worker of mine had the blackjack.

Main differences:
It is smaller than the Q, but taller
the buttons are a bit trickier to press.
the screen is smaller
there is a dedicated power button on top

We did some benchmarking with going to web sites, and at least for this area, it was spot-on for load times of each one we tried. He could not get our exchange server set up to get his email though, but we were unsure if it was that our company doesn't support AT&T as opposed to my verizon.

His bluetooth did not support the pc remote function, but that is really nitpicking unless you use that often.

One thing I liked was that if you bought the extended battery, which he had, it came with a back-plate that extended the length of the back of the phone, so it didn't look like you added anything at first glance. Unlike the Q, which looks like it has a silver backpack on.

Overall, though there are numerous things about the blackjack I like better than the Q, I still prefer the Q. As for ergonomics, that is the main reason I like the Q better. It seemed like the guy with the Blackjack was always fumbling around with it, as if he had trouble with the buttons and the small screen.

Hope that helps
