Default Q questions regarding Excel, AIM, etc

Great forum. Found out loads of good stuff here already, but wanted to ask a few questions.

My primary reason for getting the Q is the Qwerty keyboard for texting. I'm addicted and hate texting on my crappy number pad phone. Upon reading more about the Q I'm also starting to really like the data items. I'm with Sprint so unlimited is only $15/month, which will really only cost me $5 more as I'm already on a $10/month text plan. Anyway I digress.

How are the third party apps for AIM? Do they slow the Q down? Is it always on (i.e. how does it work when people call me)

Is there a program that allows me to EDIT (not just view) Excel files?

How is the attachment email feature (camera pics, excel files, etc)?

Thanks in advance.

There are a couple out there and I am not sure how they work. I have heard good and bad about them all. As far as when some one calls you, you will need to go through a process every time you turn your phone on and off. ##33284# --Field Test Menu -- DDTM--turn it off. This will allow for calls to come in when you are on the internet (EVDO).

Documents to GO. This is a great program!!

How is the attachment email feature (camera pics, excel files, etc)?

Not sure exactly what you mean here but I have had no issues and it is very simple to attach a picture or document.

Thanks in advance.[/quote]
Good Luck. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. Kind of curious what you mean by:

AIM isn't a deal breaker for me, but it would be great to have it. I can't believe I missed "Documents to GO" in my searching. That sounds perfect.

About the attachments, I just read some other posts saying that people had difficulty sending attachments for some reason. They would open their gmail and have problems attaching a pic from their camera or a word document.

Thanks!

Why pay for DocumentstoGo when there is a version of Microsoft Office for WM6 floating around. I have it on my phone and you can use Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Here is the link: http://www.qusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10194
I think the breakdown is if you need a robust, feature rich editing program, D2Go is probably best. But if you need it for basic editing of files the program from the above link should suit your needs.

If there is a way to get AIM to work on the Q and you find out how, hopefully free, please post back a reply so I can use it as well. LOL.

The attachment problem your referring to is in regards to not being able to attack pictures/videos with text messages. Not sure if its MMS or SMS, where the Q can't attach pictures/videos to text messages. Hope this helps.

As far as pricing, if you don't have a special deal, texting and data are separate, so if you are playing $10 a month for a text package, to get data added on, you will pay an additional $15, not just $5 more.

buckguin, do you ever shut it off? Like if someone is calling when you are on AIM, does it shut off or you just go offline while the call is happening?

itzhobbes, that sounds a bit advanced for me, but I downloaded it anyway. It looks like it was hacked from the 6700 phone which has WM6, but Sprints Q is WM5 and it looks like a .NET compatibility problem. I don't want to buy a Q and then mess up everything because I don't know what I'm doing. Maybe if I understand more I'll give it a shot.

regression, you are correct. I just chatted with the rep. My bad.

While you are on the internet/AIM you can not recieve calls. It will ring and ring and go to VM. The way around it is the ##33284#. Going through that step will allow phone calls to cut in and when your done, it will go right back to where you left off.

I listen to stream readio sometimes and I will recieve a call and when I hang up the radio picks back up.

After applying the update from Motorola, I am able to receive phone calls while on the Internet. I do not need to go into the Field Test Menu anymore. Even after I shut off the phone and start it again, the settings still allow for me to receive calls while on the Internet.
