Q died...do I need insurance to get a new one?

So, like many others here, my Q died this morning. I tried many methods listed on this forum about getting it to work, but it just won't start, period. anyway, will verizon replace it because it's so fouled up or do I need to have the insurance? thanks...

The manufacturer warranty is good for a year. That only covers phones with defects, which sounds like applies here.

The insurance covers theft, damage, etc. The caveat with insurance is that you had to start paying for it within the first two weeks, you can't just add it on later when your phone breaks.
