As I understood it, push effect would stop the send/receive by the moto q after I configured it to automatically check never

I'm doing okay receiving emails, but when I send a reply, my inbox clears out again because the phone sends/receives. I thought push effect was going to eliminate this?

Let me get this straight... you don't want it to auto send/receive messages?

from what i understand "push" pushes email as received on the server, so instead of the device -in your case the Q- polling for mail. which prevents from polling/connecting when there is no mail to pickup. not sure how this would relate to sending mail..

Ultimately, I'd like to have my old messages in my inbox for reference. It's annoying to have to log into the webmail every time I need to check an old email. When PushEffect automatically sends/receives when I send an email via the Q, it removes the read messages from my inbox.

I thought this could be a result of syncing with the new messages left on the Gmail inbox, but I even changed the settings so that a copy of the mssage was left in the Gmail inbox when accessed by POP (and also when forwarded by SMS for PushEffect)

That's a setting on your Q that is doing that not PUsh Effect. Mine stay in my inbox. Go to messaging>what email you need to change>menu>options>sending. How do you have Push Effect setup?

Whe you setup the email account on the Q, it will ask you if you want it Dowload the following messages:

Last 3 Days of email
Today's email
Lat 5 emails etc.....

Push Effect still obeys these settings. So if you wnat all of your old emails, you will to change this "All Emails".

FYI.. Pulling all your messges each time may slow down your Q. If you still want this, you should switch you email location to your storage card. Look under Motorola Q Hacks to learn how to do this.

Still no luck.

I suspect that the prolem is arising when I check mail on the Q because the copy is then archived on webmail and no longer in the inbox, therefore won't show up on the Q after send/receive. I changed the gmail settings to keep copies in inbox when accessed via POP but still no luck. I'd just have a new message in the inbox and no message on the Q.

I did move my emails to my storage card. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ahhh.. I didnt know you were using Gmail. If you look at some of the other threads, you will see this is a know problem with Gmail.
