Phone will not recognize memory card - Motorola Q Forum

I just got a 4gb Samsung memory card. I put it in the phone and it locks in, but then the phone locks up. Then I release it and the phone is now workable. If I try to insert it when the phone is off, it never fully reboots, it just hangs on the Verizon logo and never gets to windows. I have no idea what I can do different. Any ideas?

Do you have an SD card writer on your computer? if so, you might want to try formatting the SD card. Otherwise, it sounds like the card may be pooched and you might want to request a refund.

it wont work cuz the Q can only read cards up to 2gigs. its been discussed before

Or I should read more thoroughly and see that you are using a 4GB card, and as stated above, won't work.

Well my understanding is there are people using 4gb cards and they are working. I guess I should of checked here first before buying one knowing there could be problems.

Anyways, I was able to format the card on a computer at my office and the Q is recognizing it. I put some MP3's on it and it updated the library fine and is working.

One question, where can you tell how much space is available on the card via the Q? I want to make sure it shows 3.88gb or so. In settings, more, more, and about it does not show the size. Also in Activesync explorer when I click on properties of the storage card folder it does not show that info. In file manger (on the q) when you click on properties it does not give that info.

Glad to hear you were able to format the card! You can go into memory manager and see how full your card is. And obviously, its not going to hold exactly 4GB of data, it will be slightly less

Thanks I did not realize there was a memory manager. I found out how to get to it from a search from this site. It does show as having 3.86gb total space. I know some people had 4gb cards, but they were only showing 1gb total space so I wanted to make sure everything is working right.

Also for people wanting to know my card was bought on Ebay and was advertised as having Samsung Flash. I don't think it is necessarily Samsung brand though. Anyways, it does seem to work so far without any issues. I am using is mostly for music.

Hey, I'm having an issue where my q won't recognize my card. I have two 1gb micro sd, with a kingston mini sd adapter and a kingston sd adapter. I'm having trouble getting my computer and my phone to recognize it. It does sometimes, but not all the time. any suggestions?

I am not sure I understand. Are you trying to use a micro SD? Then putting it into a mini sd adapter? I am not sure that is the way to go. You should be trying to use a mini sd card in the Q and not a micro card.
