Default Pet Q Peeve - Answering the Q when it's plugged in

Does anyone else have this issue/problem - If I am sitting at my desk with the Q plugged in to my laptop, charging and connected to Activesync, if I get an incoming call...I grab the phone, unplug the USB cord and try to answer it and the phone stutters, stumbles and MIGHT connect by the caller's sixth or seventh ring? I don't have the issue when the phone is unplugged - it just seems like the phone can't "disengage" in timely way when I need to answer it like that.

What does the phone do if you answer the call first and then unplug it?

Good idea! I'll try that, but it shouldn't be an issue. The smartphone features/aspect of the device should never, ever interfere with its use as phone.

Activesync seems to take a lot of cpu cycles on the phone, just haveing it plugged in and try to do anything on the phone its really slow.

Often times I have it plugged in with a 6" usb cord. I guess I could answer it using the speakerphone function. I was basically just curious if other people has a similar experience, or if I had - perhaps - added a program or changed a setting somewhere along the line that was mucking up my Q.

Where did you get the short cable? I tried to plug mine in with a standard USB cable and it won't charge, I have to use the one that came with it.

You need to be sure that you get a five pin mini-USB cable and not a four pin mini-usb cable. Five pin seems to be more common, but there are some four pin cables floating around out there, mostly for/from digital cameras. Note that there is no risk using a five pin mini usb on a device that doesn't make use of the power function - it just doesn't do anything.

Always buy five pin mini USB cables.

I think your problem is the dreaded Activesync. I avoid it along with most Microsoft malware. I think if you charged your phone with a GNU/Linux system or a Mac system or the wall charger you would not have any problem. In fact, one time I made the mistake of setting up Activesync on a WIndows system and plugging the phone in and not only did Microsoft install some unauthorized "updates" on the phone, but the speed and responsiveness were ruined until a hard reset.

What I do to avoid Activesync completely:
Backup contacts - copy pim.vol to storage card, FTP server on LAN, HTTPS server on LAN, or SCP to SSH server on LAN (thanks rudeboy for pim.vol info)
Transfer files - all Q files mirrored on storage card, FTP server on LAN, HTTPS server on LAN, or SCP to SSH server on LAN. Finally, I could use WM5 Storage directly connected to a PC if it came down to it. I use rsync to mirror the files easily between the FTP server and the HTTPS server.

Not only do I have access to my files and contacts while connected to the home LAN, but I have access to them anywhere I go with DYNDNS free static hostname service.

I tend to agree that the problem is Activesync. The only times I plug my phone into my laptop is when I need to either recharge (which is rare because I have both a regular charger and a phone charger), update something on my Q (like my Pocket IE favorites), or use PDAnet.

This is just another case where Microsoft hasn't evolved the product as effectively or elegantly as Palm (or probably Apple) has.
